WHAT IS OFF-DUTY STYLE?

Made for moments when the word ‘formal’ is thankfully nowhere to be found and strict dress codes are firmly out of sight, ‘off-duty’ style is comfort and style all in one. Think pretty but practical pieces that will have you feeling amazing with near-zero effort. Perfect for ‘me time’ moments when you want to look and feel good, and great for more social events when you simply wish to elevate your everyday look. Off-duty style is something that you can play around and have fun with. There are no rules. The only tip we’d give is don’t work too hard at it. It’s called ‘off duty’ for a reason.

SMART-CASUAL

Ah, the elusive ‘smart-casual’. Does anyone really know what these two words mean? We think it’s best defined as combining well-fitting, slightly formal pieces with really

relaxed clothing and a few accessories. The best smart casual looks are those that can look smarter or more casual with just a few easy tweaks. Joules’ cardigans and jumpers are perfect for this. And once you’ve chosen a knit, simply pair with some classic boots or pumps, and a midi skirt and you’ve got an outfit you can wear time and time again.

A WALK IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

There are three rules when it comes to walking outfits: comfort, layers and waterproofs (a non-negotiable with our British weather being predictably unpredictable). Make sure your feet stay dry and stand out from the crowd with a pair of our wellies or waterproof boots. Keep the wind at bay with a funnel-neck knit, classic sweatshirt or (if it’s a little warmer) a simple jersey top. Jeans or shorts are great if you’re not on a 20-mile mountain hike. And don’t forget one of our waterproof coats too.

COSY NIGHT IN

For ultimate cosiness, you can’t go wrong with a bright pair of pyjamas and a snuggly dressing gown. A pair of joggers or leggings are also a great choice (bonus points, you can wear them outside with trainers), and, of course, where would we be without a comfy pair of slippers? The only dilemma now is what to watch? Or what to read? And what to eat? And what to drink? Make sure you decide quickly though, as a cosy night in (whether you’re staying in a Hand Picked Hotel, or at home) is something to be treasured.

CASUAL DATE OUTFIT

Wondering what to wear on a weekday date night? Or a spontaneous trip to the pub? We recommend a statement jumper and jeans or for something a little bit different (and lots of compliments). Or a printed dress. Pick your favourite bag and a pair of white trainers and off you go. Now you have the perfect casual date night outfit. And of course, when you’re not being wined and dined or catching up with friends, this outfit will be perfect at almost any other time of the week… or weekend.

EASY EVERYDAY

Everyone needs a few easy, everyday looks in their wardrobe – the kind that you don’t even have to think about, you just know they’ll look good.
