Party Style
From leopard print to leather, this year’s party trends give you plenty of scope for letting your hair down. Here’s what to wear on the dancefloor.
The World’s Most Expensive Dress
The world’s most expensive dress was sold at auction in 2016 for $4,800,000. Made by the costumier Jean Louis, it became iconic when Marilyn Monroe wore it to a fundraiser event in 1962 and famously sang ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’. The skin-tight gown (which Monroe is thought to have been sewn into) is custom-made and embellished with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals. The light colour gave the illusion that Monroe was nude, except for some discreetly placed rhinestones covering her from head to toe. It is currently owned by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! but it was back in the headlines in 2022, when Kim Kardashian wore the dress to the Met Gala.
Bright Colours
While it’s tempting to stick to a classic LBD, you’ll never regret stepping outside your comfort zone and shaking things up with a bright, bold hue. There’s so much more scope for expressing yourself with colour, and you’ll also garner a lot more attention.
Animal Print
Animal print is a great alternative to black when it comes to a party outfit. You can choose a print with sequins or tassels if you want to add a party vibe, or dress it down with jeans or leather trousers if you don’t want to keep things more casual.
Contrasting Prints & Textures
This is one of the hardest 2023 party trends to pull off, but looks incredible when it’s done right. Contrasting prints and textures work well together, but you need to choose them carefully. Use a colour wheel for picking colour combinations and dedicate time to seeing what complements each other before the day itself.
Leather
For men and women, leather is a great party fabric. Its sheer, glossy finish instantly gives off that fun-mixed-with-a-bit-of-an-edge vibe. You can opt for a leather jacket or trousers and combine them with sequins, denim, or simple cotton textures.
Sheer Fabrics
This is definitely the party trend that requires the most confidence to wear, but it doesn’t have to be extreme for it to be effective. Choose tops with sheer panelling on the arms or just around the neck; a flash of mesh and what’s underneath is just as stylish.
