It is in this spirit that we introduce the Hand Picked Book Club; a new space for readers who love thoughtful writing, compelling stories and books that stay with you long after the final page. In each issue, we will curate a small selection of recommended reads — from contemporary fiction to voices shaping culture, business and the environment.

Steph McGovern: Finding Strength in Standing Out

Broadcaster, journalist and author Steph McGovern joined us at Fermain Valley Hotel during her visit to the islands.
From engineering graduate to one of Britain’s most recognisable broadcasters, Steph’s career has been shaped by curiosity, resilience and staying true to herself. A former BBC Business Correspondent, her debut novel Deadline draws on her experience in media and business, bringing real world pressure into a gripping fictional setting.
Throughout her career, Steph has shown that individuality, including her northern accent and unconventional path, can become a powerful advantage.
