A Passion Revived
Nestled deep in the heart of the East Sussex countryside, Hidden Spring Vineyard has a story as rich and varied as its wines.
Founded in 1986, the vineyard gained an enviable reputation for its high-quality, award-winning wines, counting esteemed retailers such as Fortnum & Mason amongst its most discerning clientele. However, Hidden Spring’s fortunes were set to take a turn for the worse in the mid-2000s when it was converted into a campsite, and its precious vines were removed.
Thankfully, in 2015, life was breathed back into this treasured spot when the vineyard was revived with over 24,000 vines planted across 13 acres. Hidden Spring’s stellar trajectory continued with the arrival of Richard and Sara Asman in 2022, who took over the vineyard, bringing with them a fresh vision. Having relocated from South
Africa, where they had raised their family, the Asmans were eager to contribute to the flourishing English wine industry. Richard’s background in pharmaceutical manufacturing, coupled with Sara’s work as an art psychotherapist, gave them a unique approach, blending precision with creativity.
This combined passion for cultivating exceptional wines and creating a warm, welcoming space continues today, inviting visitors from Britain and beyond to discover Hidden Spring’s charm.
Each wine at Hidden Spring is crafted with minimal intervention, allowing the grapes and seasons to tell their own story. No two years are the same, and each vintage carries its own character, a reflection of the ever-changing nature of the vineyard.
A Sustainable Approach
As a family-owned vineyard, sustainability is at the heart of everything Hidden Spring does. The on-site winery allows the team to manage every step of the winemaking process, reducing the environmental footprint by eliminating the need for transportation to external wineries. Vineyard manager Micaela practices careful, minimal intervention, using organic compost and only treating the vines when absolutely necessary. This commitment to sustainable practices reflects Hidden Spring’s philosophy of working in harmony with nature, letting each season and harvest shape the wines.
Hidden Spring Vineyard offers more than just wine: it’s an experience that blends tradition with innovation, nature with nurture. Whether you’re sipping a glass of Bacchus while watching the sunset or joining in one of the vineyard’s special events, you’re invited to be a part of this evolving story.
Come and discover the heart of Hidden Spring—where every bottle is a celebration of the land, the vines, and the hands that tend them.
